The implementation of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme has garnered commendation from the Bayelsa State House Committee on Health.

Dr. Godbless Oyinke, Chairman of the Bayelsa State House Committee on Health, expressed commendation during a visit to the Bayelsa Health Insurance House with other committee members for an oversight meeting with the Scheme’s management.

Dr. Oyinke highlighted that the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme stands out as one of the state government’s most effective programs. He also praised the scheme’s management for their efforts in ensuring that individuals from the private sector, regardless of their social status, are covered under the scheme.

In her welcoming address, Prof. Onyaye Kunle-Olowu, Chairperson of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme Board, extended gratitude to the House Committee on Health for the visit. She believed that the visit would provide committee members with a better understanding of the scheme’s operations.

Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah, in his speech, emphasized that the scheme’s mandate is to guarantee affordable, effective, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services for all Bayelsa state residents.

Dr. Agadah noted that the scheme’s operations have advanced significantly. Recently, leaderships of various unions in the state, including the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Private School Owners, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Higher Institutions, and others, have agreed to integrate their members into the scheme.

He revealed that as of the end of December 2022, the scheme had registered a total of 127,273 enrollees, excluding the 23,346 enrollees registered under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) meant for the vulnerable.

Furthermore, Dr. Agadah stated that the scheme has conducted 6,239 different types of surgeries from inception to December 2022, including 885,700 hospital attendances with 109 accredited healthcare facilities under the scheme.

He emphasized that the scheme can only improve with the cooperation of all stakeholders.
