The Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS) has successfully concluded a two-day leadership retreat designed to strengthen health insurance implementation in the state through strategic management practices.
The retreat, which took place from 15th to 16th September, 2025, was hosted at the Conference Room of the Bayelsa Health Insurance House, State Secretariat Complex, Ovom, Yenagoa.

The program brought together Board Members, senior management staff, and key stakeholders of the Scheme, creating an interactive platform for discussing innovative approaches to enhance service delivery, expand coverage, and ensure sustainable healthcare financing for Bayelsans.

With the theme “Improving Health Insurance Implementation through Strategic Management,” the retreat focused on deepening participants’ knowledge of governance structures, accountability mechanisms, and collaborative strategies required for the growth of health insurance in the state.

The retreat had the presence of Mr. Akeem Adebanjo and Dr. Godbless Oyinke as resource persons. They delivered insightful sessions on leadership skills, health financing models, and stakeholder engagement, while participants engaged in group discussions and case studies tailored to the unique health challenges and opportunities in Bayelsa State.

According to the organizers, the retreat was aimed at fostering a unified vision among board members and stakeholders, while equipping them with practical tools to drive the Scheme’s mission of accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all residents of Bayelsa State.

The event also provided an avenue for strengthening partnerships and reinforcing the BHIS commitment to transparency, efficiency, and innovation in healthcare delivery.
