The Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS), has been honoured with the Best Innovative Social Health Insurance Agency in the South South Region of the Federation by the Officials Nigeria Magazine.
The Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah, who received the award on behalf of the health agency in his Conference Room at the Health Insurance House in Yenagoa on the 26th of March, 2026 thanked the management of the Officials Nigeria Magazine for recognizing what he thought was a silent effort in contributing towards the improvement of the health sector in the state.
The Executive Secretary said, though the scheme is yet to attain its target of achieving Universal Health Coverage in the state, the management of the scheme is doing everything possible to ensure a very solid foundation is laid for the smooth functioning of the scheme that will guarantee sustainability, transparency and functional business processes for affordable, quality and accessible healthcare delivery to residents of the state.
Dr. Agadah noted that the management is in the process of amending the law that establishes the scheme in order to strengthen the mandatory clause that makes it compulsory for all residents of the state to enroll with the scheme vis-a-vis the low buy-in of the informal sector which is probably the most important aspect of the scheme.
He said in view of this, a 5-year strategic plan has also been developed for the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme in line with the world’s target of achieving Universal Health Coverage in 2030 and called on Government at all levels to be Frontline Players to ensuring that health insurance becomes a household name in the states.
Earlier, the Editor-In-Chief of the Official Nigeria Magazine, Mr. Emah Okon, commended the management of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS) for their commitment and selfless services that has brought the scheme to this admirable level and placing it on the World Map.
He said the Officials Nigeria Magazine is a reputable Abuja based News Magazine that decided to chronicle the activities of the health sector in the South South and has come to the conclusion that the BHIS and its management team has distinguished itself by showing exemplary and transformational leadership in the contribution to the development of the health sector in Niger Delta Sub-region, hence, the award.
